About Us

Black Herefords are a hybrid breed developed by crossing Hereford and Angus cattle and having at least 62.5% registered Hereford blood, black in color and sired by a bull registered by the American Black Hereford Association. Most have traditional white markings of a Hereford but black hided instead of red.

The American Black Hereford Association was established in 1994. The first cattle to qualify were registered in 1997.

In 2002, Black Hereford became a registered trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office.

In 2003, Black Herefords received international breed designation from the National Association of Animal breeders.

EPD's were established for Black Herefords as a separate beef breed in 2005.

A RARE BREED – Triple L Ranch featured in Landscapes magazine, Winter 2010

Bobby and Jared Lide are active owners of Triple L Black Hereford Ranch along with Bobby’s wife, Deanna Lide. The ranch is their family home and business. They have set their business goals high. They are serious about building a top breeding operation specializing in Black Herefords.

At the 2010 J&N Ranch Annual Production Sale of Black Hereford breeding stock, the Lide family became the high volume buyer of premium Black Hereford bulls and bred heifers. Just a few months later, Triple L Ranch bought the entire holdings of the Wild Rose Ranch in California and moved the herd and operation into Triple L. This purchase included WR Curve Bender and WR Lewis II U147-4060, a super thick, power packed bull. In 2011 Triple L purchased the cattle and herd bull battery from Iron Lake Ranch, and bought a tremendous group Polled Hereford heifers from McIver’s Happy Acres. This year we, and D-T purchased the great 6449 bull, and Triple L bought lot #22, JN Balder 0449 the high selling bull at the J&N sale.

Triple L has a tremendous herd with top bulls and heifers and is becoming a strong leader in Black Hereford breeding. We believe we have some of the best genetics in the breed.
